Being a woman in business can be tough. You’re often judged more harshly, criticized for being too emotional, and dealing with the extra pressure of being a role model for other women. But it doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom. In fact, one of the best things about being a fempreneur is the strong sense of community and support that exists among women business owners.
One of the best ways to grow as a business owner is to collaborate with other women in business. This can take many different forms, from partnering on projects to contributing articles as a guest author, or even just sharing resources and advice. Collaboration is key to success because it allows you to tap into a collective wisdom and experience that you wouldn’t have access to on your own. It also helps to build relationships and create networks of support that can be invaluable as you navigate the challenges of running a business.
To truly understand why collaboration is key to your growth as a fempreneur, it’s helpful to explore some of the specific ways it can help you.
Collaboration Helps You Overcome Challenges
When you’re running a business, there’s no such thing as a one-size-fits-all solution to challenges. That’s why it’s so helpful to be able to collaborate with other fempreneurs who have faced similar challenges and can offer guidance and advice based on their own experiences. This allows you to benefit from the collective wisdom of other women in business, and learn from their mistakes so that you can avoid making them yourself.
Let’s say you’re struggling with pricing your products or services. You could spend hours reading articles and books on pricing strategy, but ultimately you won’t know what will work for your business until you try it out. However, by collaborating with another fempreneur who has successfully navigated pricing challenges in their own business, you can get first-hand advice and insights that will be much more valuable than any general advice you could find online.
Collaboration helps you to overcome challenges by giving you access to the experiences and expertise of other women in business.
Collaboration Gives You a Support Network
As a fempreneur, it’s important to have a strong support network to lean on when things get tough. Collaboration can help you build such a network by connecting you with other women who understand the unique challenges of the entrepreneurship and running a thriving business.
For instance, let’s say you’re feeling burned out and struggling to keep up with the demands of your business. It can be helpful to talk to another woman in business who has been through a similar experience and can offer advice and feedback. These connections can provide an invaluable source of emotional support that can help you get through difficult times.
In addition, your network can also offer practical assistance when you need it. Like if you’re planning a launch event and need help with promotion, you can reach out to your network and see who’s available to lend a hand sharing and promoting. By collaborating with others, you can get the help you need to make your business a success.
Collaboration Increases Your Visibility
Fempreneurs often face an uphill battle when it comes to visibility. In a male-dominated world, it can be difficult to get your voice heard and your products or services seen. This is where collaboration comes in.
By partnering with other fempreneurs, you can increase your visibility in the marketplace. For example, let’s say you’re a jewelry designer and you collaborate with a fashion blogger to create a styled shoot featuring your latest collection. Not only will this give you some great content for your own marketing efforts, but it will also expose your work to the blogger’s audience, who may not have otherwise been aware of your brand.
An excellent example of this one of my favorite communities, the Lady Hustlers Société. Founded by Ryma Krimi, this community is one of my favorite places to create collaborations and support other fempreneurs. I’ve had opportunities to be on podcasts, write articles for other communities, and support other women owned businesses in a variety of exciting ways. This has provided countless opportunities for me to grow my personal business, connect with new clients and collaborators, and continue to build my brand authority. By being a collaborative member of this community I’ve been able to take advantage of opportunities I wouldn’t have otherwise known about.
Collaboration Opens Up New Opportunities
In addition to increasing your visibility, collaboration can also open up new opportunities for your business. For example, let’s say you’re a web designer and you collaborate with a web developer to create a new website for her business. Not only will you get the chance to showcase your work to her audience, but you may also get the opportunity to develop a long-term relationship with her as her business grows.
These opportunities can be particularly valuable if you’re just starting out in your business journey. When you’re first getting started, it can be difficult to find clients and customers who are willing to take a chance on you. However, by collaborating with other fempreneurs, you can get your foot in the door and start to build a strong reputation in your industry.
Getting involved in communities that share your values and principles, that encourage collaboration, and offer constructive feedback, can open up innumerous possabilities!
Collaboration Helps You Build Your Skills and Expertise
Collaboration is a great way to build the skills and expertise you need to grow your business. When you collaborate with other fempreneurs, you have the opportunity to learn from their experiences and expertise. For example, let’s say you’re working on a new marketing campaign and you collaborate with another female entrepreneur who is experienced in online marketing. She can share her knowledge with you and help you develop the skills you need to create a successful campaign.
Collaborating on a project is not just about coming to an agreement. It’s also important that you receive feedback from your peers, which can help identify areas where improvements need to be made and provide valuable information for future collaborations.
Collaboration Provides Encouragement and Motivation
When you’re running a business, it can be easy to get bogged down by the day-to-day grind. However, collaborating with other fempreneurs can provide the encouragement and motivation you need to keep going.
For example, let’s say you’ve been working on a new project for weeks and you’re starting to feel burnt out. You reach out to a fempreneur friend and ask her to collaborate with you on the project. She agrees, and as you work together, her enthusiasm rubs off on you. Suddenly, you feel reinvigorated and motivated to finish the project. There is definitely some magic to be found in collaborative energy!
Not to mention that collaborating with other fempreneurs can also help you stay accountable to your goals. Let’s say you’re working on a new business plan and you share your goals with a fempreneur friend. She agrees to hold you accountable and check in with you on a regular basis. This accountability can help you stay focused and on track as you work towards your goals… for some women in business this form of collaboration is the difference between success and “just another failed idea”.
Collaboration Leads to Greater Successes
Collaborating with other women in business can lead to greater successes for everyone involved. When fempreneurs work together, they have the opportunity to pool their resources and knowledge to create something bigger and better than they could have on their own. Personally, this is one of my favorite aspects of collaboration!
For example, let’s say two fempreneurs are working on a new product. They decide to collaborate and each contributes her unique skills and knowledge to the project. As a result, they create a product that is of higher quality and more innovative than either of them could have created on their own. There is also the ability to tap into new markets/audiences through this form of collaboration.
We’re really just scratching the surface of why collaboration is key with these points, but I’m confident that you can see the value and benefit to collaborative opportunities as a fempreneur.
If you’re looking for ways to grow as a fempreneur, don’t go it alone—seek out potential collaborations with other women in business, and watch your business thrive.
